Let the Rain Pour
Suraiya Alamgir Anarkali
Come, my beloved, upon this parched and fevered earth,
Come as the rain of monsoon,
To brush this earth with the gentle touch of cool and peaceful bliss.
Come bearing pure and boundless joy,
Spreading the sweet fragrance of jasmine in its pristine white bloom.
Come as the kadam flower of Asharh,
To adorn the beloved’s tresses with beauty.
Come as the moon in the sky
On some rain-washed night,
To play hide-and-seek with me,
And illuminate my heart
With the boundless beauty of moonlight.
Or else, come as a noble boatman;
I shall be your passenger upon your boat.
Bathing in the pouring rain,
Our little boat of love,
Carried by the breeze of our hearts,
Will sail away toward an unknown destination.
